Award wins for the heart rhythm team
Our heart rhythm team picked up three awards at this week's Heart Rhythm Congress.
The event is the UKs national gathering of 1500 cardiology specialists attending each year and is a forum for sharing of research and teaching for all clinicians with a interest in heart rhythm problems.
The awards ceremony recognises and celebrates outstanding achievements and contributions to arrhythmia services.
Barts Health won awards for:
The team of the year - this was won by Whipps Cross' atrial fibrillation ablation team who has transformed the way that the commonest heart rhythm atrial fibrillation is treated with ablation. The judges recognised that the team has shown that in using their system, they can do the procedure in half the time of a large cardiac centre with almost a 10th of the radiation use while giving similar outcomes.
Young investigator - Sherry Honarbakhsh picked up the prize after presenting her research on mapping of atrial fibrillation using a novel cardiac mapping system and demonstrated that doing this it was possible to identify the source of the rhythm problem, ablate it and successfully treat the atrial fibrillation.
Electrogram interpretation prize - our physiologists won the electrogram diagnosis prize beating a number of other teams to correctly diagnose clinical problems from the patients electrical signals.
