A global survey of health care experts has named St Bartholomew’s as one of the leading hospitals in the world and in the top five in the United Kingdom.

Published by American news magazine Newsweek, ‘The world's best hospitals 2022’ ranks the leading hospitals in 27 countries based on reputation and performance.

It includes recommendations from clinicians, hospital managers and administrators.

St Bartholomew’s was placed 133 globally and number five in the United Kingdom, up two places from last year.

Five of the UK top ten hospitals are based in London, with St Thomas’ topping the list again.

The Royal London Hospital, which is also part of Barts Health NHS Trust, jumped from 21st to 16th place in the rankings.

Founded in 1123, St Bartholomew's Hospital is the oldest working hospital in the country.

St Bartholomew’s Hospital chief executive Professor Charles Knight said: "I'm so proud of our teams for this fabulous achievement. Roll on 2023 - our 900th anniversary year - when we hope to improve even more!"
