Mr Aktuerk is a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon and the lead for Minimally invasive and Robotic Cardiac Surgery at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, Barts Heart Centre in London. 

Mr Aktuerk is a specialist in minimally invasive and robot assisted mitral valve repair and coronary artery bypass surgery, operations that brings patients from across the globe to benefit from his expertise. These advanced surgical techniques involve accessing the heart through a keyhole incision rather than conventional open-heart surgery. This results in a faster recovery time, less post-operative pain, and reduced scarring.

Mr Aktuerk has presented widely at both national and international conferences and  is actively engaged in clinical research and innovation. He was recently awarded the esteemed Consultant Team Scholarship by the Society of Cardiothoracic Surgery in Great Britain and Ireland (SCTS) to support education and training in minimally invasive and robotic cardiac surgery at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital. He is Primary Investigator of international Randomized Controlled Trials on mitral valve disease and has a significant number of publications in peer reviewed journals.
